Overview

Vehicles which are connected and automated, including driverless vehicles, are transforming transport and bringing a smarter future for passenger and freight mobility. These vehicles bring opportunities for safer travel, lower costs, more transport choices and less congestion on our roads.

The NSW Government is moving ahead to ensure the community benefits from these new technologies and the services they support. Over the next five years, we want to be ready to use them to deliver better transport and infrastructure for NSW.

The Connected and Automated Vehicles Plan (CAV Plan) outlines NSW’s strategic directions and actions to progress connected and automated vehicles over the next five years and supports Future Transport 2056.

Ministers’ announcement - Electric vehicles: They’re multiplying – It’s electrifying!

The CAV Plan was developed in close consultation with our industry and research partners, and incorporates feedback on Future Transport 2056 and supporting plans.

The Smart Innovation Centre is running a number of connected and automated vehicle (CAV) trials throughout metropolitan and regional NSW.

Through the Research Hub, we are undertaking a number of collaborative research projects on CAVs.
